Awkwafina Runs for Her Life After Big Win in First ‘Jackpot!’ Trailer

What do you do when you literally win billions of dollars on the lottery and your life changes forever? Well, if you’re Awkwafina in “Jackpot!”, you immediately go on the run to save that life.

Why? Well, in Paul Feig’s new film, set in the not-too-distant Los Angeles of 2030, the lottery works a little differently. In this case, whoever wins the jackpot must make it to sunset to claim their prize. The catch is that anyone who not If you have a winning ticket, it is legal to kill the winner and take his winnings.

Poor Katie (Awkwafina) is just an actress hoping to make it in Hollywood, who unwittingly finds herself in the draw during an audition. When she wins, everyone around her—from the other actresses to a real-life karate dojo full of students—immediately starts killing her. Well, except for John Cena’s character, Noel.

He wants to protect her and help her make it to sunset, but Katie is naturally skeptical of a stranger wanting to protect her, since he could simply kill her and take her winnings.

Then there’s Simu Liu’s character, who runs a protection agency specifically for jackpot winners. It even provides a machine that makes a prosthetic for Katie’s face, allowing her to disguise herself as an old man.

Written by Rob Yescombe and directed by Feig, the film also features MGK as part of the cast alongside Cena, Liu and Awkwafina. You can watch the full trailer for “Jackpot!” in the video above.

“Jackpot!” will be available to stream on Prime Video starting August 15.
