Arshad Nadeem reduced to tears of joy after Olympic triumph in Paris

Pakistani javelin sensation Arshad Nadeem made history on August 8 by etching his name in the annals of sport with an emotional victory at the Paris Olympics.

The 27-year-old was visibly moved as he carried his country’s flag, crying tears of joy and pride after winning Pakistan’s first ever athletics medal, and the country’s first Olympic medal in 32 years.

The journey to this moment has not been easy for Nadeem. Despite coming from a cricket-obsessed country with limited facilities for track and field athletes, he persevered, driven by a dream.

With his golden throw of 92.97 meters on his second attempt, he not only broke the Olympic record but also dethroned his good friend, India’s Neeraj Chopra, the gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics.

Nadeem’s victory was a culmination of years of hard work, practice and prayer. His is a story of determination, coming from humble beginnings in Mian Channu, Punjab, where his father, a construction worker, struggled to make ends meet.

The local community even contributed money to finance Nadeem’s training and travel for international javelin competitions when he was struggling.

From a young age, Nadeem showed athletic prowess and excelled in various sports. Although he initially pursued cricket, his potential in athletics was recognised by coach Rasheed Ahmad Saqi, who guided him to greatness. Nadeem’s victory in Paris is a testament to his unwavering dedication and the collective support of his community.
