American tennis player Giron wins first ATP title in Newport

Marcos Giron has won his first title on the ATP Tour. The 30-year-old American was too strong for his 19-year-old compatriot Alex Michelsen in Newport, USA: 6-7 (4) 6-3 7-5.

For Giron it was his third final at the highest level. In 2022 he left the court as a loser in the final in San Diego and earlier this year he lost the final in Dallas. Michelsen is still waiting for his first title. Last year the teenager also reached the final in Newport, where he lost to the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.

Giron, who was seeded second, was ranked 46th in the world before the start of the tournament.
