Alex Pereira opens as underdog in matches featuring Jon Jones, Tom Aspinall and more

Despite his impressive run, Alex Pereira remains a betting underdog against four of his next potential opponents.

On Saturday, Pereira successfully defended his light heavyweight title for the second time, defeating Jiri Prochazka in the main event of UFC 303. In the aftermath, the question turned to who “Poatan” will face next, and whether or not he could do it to fetch. moving up to heavyweight to attempt to become the first three-division champion in UFC history.

If he does, the oddsmakers won’t be happy with his chances.

On Sunday, Sportsbetting.ag released the odds for hypothetical matchups between UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, and Pereira is a significant underdog in both. Check out the odds below.

Alex Pereira (+500) vs. Jon Jones (-800)

Alex Pereira (+300) vs. Tom Aspinall (-400)

For reference, a gambler who bets $100 on Pereira would get back $500 plus the original stake in the event that Pereira beats Jones. These odds suggest that Pereira has a 25 percent chance of beating Aspinall, while there is only a 16.7 percent chance of beating Jones.

Sportsbetting.ag has also made a prediction for a possible trilogy between Pereira and former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Again, Pereira is the underdog, although bookmakers give him a 39 percent chance of winning in this case.

It’s unclear at this point who Pereira will fight next, though UFC CEO Dana White did indicate after UFC 303 that he’s not quite ready to see “Poatan” move up to heavyweight. Instead, a matchup with former light heavyweight title contender Magomed Ankalaev could happen.

Staying with the theme, Pereira is already the underdog in that bout as well, as bookmakers give him a 32.3 percent chance of defending his light heavyweight title again.
