$55 Million San Clemente Estate, Known for Kelly Slater’s Iconic 2008 Pearl Jam Benefit, Goes for Sale

Olympic surfer Kelly Slater’s Mediterranean-style San Clemente estate takes pride of place among his prized properties. Located just two doors from President Nixon’s western White House, it exudes a unique blend of luxury and historic allure. Now on the market for $55 million, this renowned estate gained even more fame in 2008 when the location hosted a benefit event hosted by the Kelly Slater Foundation. The event featured a 90-minute performance by Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and attracted celebrities, professional surfers and Slater’s closest associates from the surfing community.

More than 700 attendees came together to raise $350,000 for Surfrider and MiOcean’s Save Trestles campaign. Originally owned by Martin Colombatto, a former Broadcom Corp. executive. The estate is now a testament to Slater’s legacy and philanthropic efforts. With Slater now attempting to part with the property, the sale price is reaching into the millions of dollars, reflecting its prestigious history and luxurious grandeur.

According to a recent listing in the Orange County Register, Kelly Slater’s San Clemente home is for sale for as much as the aforementioned price. It sold in 2021 for $33.9 million, making it one of the most expensive homes in that area. It is almost 13,000 m² in size and consists of a main house and a casita with 11 bathrooms and 7 bedrooms. It is located on a flat cliff of 2.6 hectares behind two large gates. It is located in the exclusive Cotton Point Estates community and is backed by 450 feet of beach. It overlooks the Trestles surfing site and is also equipped with a swimming pool and open-plan living space.

The primary suite also has an adjoining sitting room, a spa-inspired bathroom and a private terrace with a high ceiling with wooden beams and stone walls. In terms of landscape, it features mature cypress trees. It also comes with an elevator, a nine-car garage and a smart home system for maximum comfort. The reason for the 4x Laureus World Action Sportsperson’s decision to sell it is not yet clear, but one could speculate that it is because he does not use the house often.

In addition to this property, Slater has also put his beachfront property in Oahu up for sale. The house, located on the north coast of Hawaii, is valued at $20 million. Slater had initially purchased it for $7.8 million in 2017. It is a beautiful property spanning over half an acre and 7,680 sq ft of oceanfront grounds. The main house consists of 6 bedrooms, 2 guest rooms and 7 bathrooms. This isn’t the only property he owns in Hawaii. There’s another one he usually rents out. It seems that, in addition to surfing, Kelly Slater is also quite interested in real estate. Especially if they are beach houses near great surfing spots.

Founded in 2007 by Kelly Slater, the eponymous foundation works to support existing environmental and sustainability charities. “I think there’s something genetic about us, somehow built into the way we live our lives,” – Kelly Slater once joked about environmental sustainability. A major initiative they undertook was the “10 for TEN” program, which was in partnership with the Quicksilver Foundation. It celebrated Slayer’s tenth ASP World Surfing Championship and saw a $100,000 donation to 10 NGOs of Slater’s choice.

NGOs included Mauli Ola Foundation, Na Kalai Wa’ka Moku O Hawai’i, Kokua Hawai’i Foundation and Waves for Water. It also collaborates with Slater’s sustainable clothing line Outerknown. It provides significant assistance to charities focused on ocean conservation, such as the Reef Check, which aims to protect underwater corals. Slater has bridged the gap between the technical ingenuity of surfing and offering various approaches, from entrepreneurship to everything else. Hello everyone Kelly Slater.
