2024 Spring All-Met: Golf first team, second team, honorable mention

The following student-athletes have been selected to The Washington Post’s 2024 All-Met team for spring golf:

Carson Looney, Jr., Gonzaga

While the Eagles won all three of their postseason tournaments, Looney twice earned a low medalist honors, with a 5-under par 66 at the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship and a 6-under par 66 in the D.C. State Athletic Association championship. The WCAC Co-Player of the Year was determined to play for Indiana and finished the regular season with a spotless head-to-head record and an average of 35.18 strokes per nine holes.

Abigail Avallone, So., Stone Ridge

Avallone took the individual title at the Washington Metro Private School Girls’ Golf Invitational for the second year in a row with an even-par 72 during the two-day event. Her efforts helped the Gators secure a second straight team victory.

Jacob Foti, Sr., St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes

Christopher Newport’s commit missed the Interstate Athletic Conference individual title by one stroke and was one of only four golfers to qualify as an individual for the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association tournament for the second year in a row.

Jack Hartman, Sr., Gonzaga

Bucknell’s commitment was a key presence in the Eagles’ championship run, averaging 35 strokes per nine-hole match in the regular season and finishing in the top five at the WCAC, Metro and DCSAA championships.

Rúa Kimotho, Sr., Georgetown Prep

In what would be considered an up and down season by his standards, Kimotho took his game to another level at the IAC Championship, earning low medalist honors with an even par 72 at the challenging PB Dye Golf Club.

Dennis McGowan, Sr., Paul VI

McGowan capped a stellar career at Paul VI by being the only golfer to finish under par at the Washington Metro Golf Championship, shooting a 5-under 67 at Worthington Manor.

Orr was named first-team all-conference in the WCAC, averaged less than a stroke above par over the course of the regular season and finished in the top 10 at the conference tournament and VISAA meet as Paul VI advanced to Metros for the third time in a row.

Jason Park, So., Georgetown Prep

Park was the most consistent player on a team loaded with talent, scoring 39 or better in every regular season game. An individual seventh-place finish at the IAC Championship gave Georgetown Prep a conference title.

Logan Reilly, Jr., Bishop O’Connell

He had a 15-0 record in match play and earned low medalist honors at the VISSA Division I state championship. He received WCAC Co-Player of the Year honors alongside Looney.

Jimmy Spallone, Jr., St. John’s

He averaged an impressive 33.36 shots per game as the Cadets’ top shooter and finished with a 9-2 record in the regular season, losing only to fellow All-Met first teamers Reilly and McGowan.

Oliver Wang, Sr., St. Albans

Wang took his role as leader to heart and was instrumental in another successful season for the Bulldogs. He finished all three postseason tournaments in the top three, including a tie for second place at IACs.

Bob Barry, Georgetown Prep

In his 41 years as head coach, Barry has seen his Hoyas hoist the IAC trophy 26 times. This year’s title, the sixth straight for Georgetown Prep, had extra significance for Barry: It was his 600th win as coach of the Hoyas.
