2024 Mother Son Modified Scotch Tournament at The Ranch GC

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JULY 15, 2024

SOUTHWICK, Massachusetts — Loren Le Gassick And Philip Le Gassickfrom The Kittansett Club, the Mother Son won overall and senior division titles by shooting 5-under 72 and winning one playoff hole.

Deborah O’Kelly (Barnstable Golf) and her son Timmy Adams (Pocasset Golf Club) won the title in the junior division with a strong score of 5-under 72.

O’Kelly/Adams and Le Gassick/Le Gassick had to play a play-off for the overall title. The duo Le Gassick emerged victorious after winning the first hole with a birdie.

This year again, the tournament was postponed at 2:40 PM due to weather conditions, disrupting play and keeping the course conditions interesting for the participants.

Participation was open to mothers and grandmothers, as well as sons and grandsons. In modified scotch, both golfers tee off, choose which drive to play, and then alternate strokes until the hole is complete.

During the event, gross and net scores were measured, using 60% of the lower handicap plus 40% of the higher handicap for the team.

SENIOR DIVISION (Sons aged 19 and over)

Loren Le Gassick And Philip Le Gassick (The Kittansett Club) took first place in the gross division with a score of 5-under par 72.

“I used to do the parent-child events with my mom and dad in the 80s,” Loren said. “My mom and I were in a playoff and I have great memories of parent-child events, they’re really fun.”

Loren has an extensive golfing legacy; an ACC Champion on the 1985 Wake Forest team, as well as a winner of the New England Women’s Amateur, and an active participant in Women’s Amateur Championships both in the United States and the UK. Her eldest son, Philip, also led Old Rochester to a Division 2 state title in 2022. It goes without saying that it was a powerhouse duo that took over The Ranch on Monday.

Loren and her sons had never competed in the Mother-Son Tournament before, but Philip was glad they did this year.

“It was really fun for me… my mum is quite competitive, she’s been into golf for a while but we’ve never really done tournaments like this before,” said Philip. “I have to say I didn’t expect it to be this much fun… Mass Golf put on such a great event, I can’t believe we’ve missed it for so many years.”

The 5 birdies they collected during their round undoubtedly helped them win Michelle Morgan (Amherst Golf Club) and her son Jesse Morgan (Northfield Golf Club), who finished with a score of 3-under par 72.

JUNIOR DIVISION (Sons 18 years and younger)

In the Junior Division, Timmy Adams (Pocasset Golf Club) and his mother Deborah O’Kelly (Barnstable Golf) took a convincing victory with a score of 5-under par 72. The duo made an eagle on the first hole and collected another 5 birdies during their round.

Loren Le Gassick and younger son Peter Le Gassick (The Kittansett Club) finished second in the division, with a score of 72.
