Baseball America presents its High School All-American teams for the 2024 season.

End-of-season honorees are selected by BA staff after consultation with scouts and high school coaches. In keeping with BA’s tradition of looking to the present as well as the future, players are honored for both their production and their tools.

Hunter Carns, C, First Coast HS, Jacksonville, FL

Carns has an atypical catcher profile in high school thanks to his striking athleticism and speed that could also allow him to play off the field. He generates surprising power thanks to his tremendous hand speed and should be able to make up for the swing-and-miss in his game with plenty of impact.

PJ Morlando, CI, Summerville HS, Summerville, SC

Morlando is the best first baseman in the prep class, although he has also played outfield. His calling card is a deadly combination of strike and power from an unconventionally wide stance. That setup hasn’t stopped him from making contact, and he uses the entire court while showing off some of the best raw power in the class.

Caleb Bonemer, CI, Okemos HS, Okemos, MI

Bonemer is a right-handed hitter with an exciting power/speed combination who may have a chance to stick at shortstop. If he can’t, he has the tools to be a great defender at third base. He has major surgery in the box, but was one of the most impressive performers on the showcase circuit last summer.

Bryce Rainer, MI, Harvard-Westlake HS, Studio City, CA

Rainer, the top prep shortstop in the class, has a ton of tools and is coming off an excellent season in Southern California with prep powerhouse Harvard-Westlake. He is aiming for plus strength and already has a 70-degree arm that is an asset on the left side of the infield. He has clean and reliable actions and glovework.

Tyson Lewis, MI, Millard West HS, Omaha, NE

Lewis is a standout athlete with tremendous speed and quick, snappy hands in the box, which could make him a strong pure hitter. He has added more strength and expanded his tool set this spring and has achieved double run times in training. He has excellent athleticism and an edge up the middle.

Konnor Griffin, OF, Jackson Prep, Flowood, MS

The High School Player of the Year has unparalleled tools and upside in this draft. He is a double-plus runner with plus raw power and plus arm strength who could be a plus defender at multiple positions. Scouts have praised his swing and offensive consistency this spring. Griffin is also legit as a pro pitching prospect.

Slade Caldwell, OF, Valley View HS, Jonesboro, AR

Caldwell is a short, stocky, left-handed hitting outfielder who performs consistently with a top-notch tool set. He is a good runner who covers a lot of ground in center field and puts pressure on the defense on the bases. He has perhaps the best bat-to-ball skills among the preps, which also indicates above-average batting ability.

Braylon Payne, OF, Fort Bend Elkins HS, Missouri City, TX

Payne is young for his class and one of the better straight line runners with double speed, which should make him an above-average midfielder and potential table setter. His bat-to-ball skills are solid, and he’s done a good job of cleaning up the direction and consistency of his lower half in his swing.

Theo Gillen, DH, Westlake HS, Austin, TX

Injuries have shortened Gillen’s playing time in high school, but when healthy he is one of the most dangerous players in the class. He’s a physical, left-handed hitter who should hit for average and power, while his plus run tool should make him a good outfielder moving from shortstop.

Cam Caminiti, SP, Saguaro HS, Scottsdale, AZ

Caminiti, originally a member of the class of 2025, will not turn 18 until after the draft. He has an overpowering fastball that consistently sits in the mid-90s. The lefthander’s developing secondary movements are aided by an advanced touch and feel of an athletic throw. His uncle is 15-year-old big leaguer Ken Caminiti.

William Schmidt, SP, Catholic HS, Baton Rouge, LA

Schmidt’s sense of spin is the envy of the class of 2024. The righthander consistently drops a hammer-breaking ball that yields double-plus projections and has helped Schmidt rise to the top of the prep pitching rankings. He also has a projectable frame and quick ball tracking in the right direction and has reached 90 mph this spring.

Dax Whitney, SP, Blackfoot HS, Blackfoot, ID

Few players are drafted in the top ten in Idaho, but Whitney forced scouts to become familiar with the state after establishing himself as the top prospect in the Northwest. The righthander has an elite 6-foot-4 pitching frame, a fastball up to 90 mph and multiple breaking balls that can be above average.

Kash Mayfield, SP, Elk City HS, Elk City, OK

Mayfield has a picturesque performance and a fantastic operation that has helped him develop into one of the best hitting pitchers in the class of 2024. The lefthander showed more speed and is now consistently in the low 90s with a breaking ball from the middle of the 70s and a changeup he throws with conviction to complete a solid arsenal.

Boston Bateman, SP, Camarillo HS, Camarillo, CA

There are few prospects for draft, high school or college, who are more imposing than Bateman. That’s why the 6-foot-4, 240-pound lefthander has been nicknamed “Sasquatch.” He attacks hitters with a mid-90s fastball and a few high-spin breaking balls. He has made progress with his delivery and command this spring.
